 SAMPLE MENUS

I serve the children a noon lunch meal and an after nap meal, both including milk, a protein, fruits and/or vegetables, and a grain product.  These are the most common foods served at my daycare, although different items are sometimes served.  Noon main dishes are rotated so that each main dish is served no more than once a month.  The children will be served a diet with limited sugar, salt, and fat items and whenever possible, foods will be homemade and home-cooked instead of pre-packaged, processed, or frozen items in an effort to also limit sugar, salt, fat, additives, chemicals, and preservatives as I strive to give them the healthiest meals possible.  The after nap meal will usually be a "cold" meal and the noon meal will usually be a "hot" meal.  The beverage served is milk and the milk served is BGH hormone-free.  Whole milk or 2% is served to children under age two.  Skim milk is served to children over age two.  Cookies or cake are reserved for special occasions like birthday or holiday parties.  No one is required to clean their plate.  However, everyone is expected to try what is being served.
